Build Your Character
Nine steps. Pick what fits, leave what doesn't, and we'll mail you the finished sheet a week before game night.
If you'd rather just grab one of the ten ready-to-play characters, that's perfect — this builder is for the players who want to roll their own. We start with class because class is what your turn looks like: the bigger identity decision is what your hands will be doing on a Saturday night. Everything else — species, background, stats, the small picks — fits around that.
Pick your class
What does your turn look like? Starter classes are the cleanest to learn at the table; deep-end classes have more dials. Either is fine — pick what sounds fun.

Pick your subclass
At level 3 every class commits to a subclass — the inner branch of your training. The level-3 feature is the one you'll feel at the table on game night.
Pick a class first — go back to Step 1.
Pick your species
Ten species in the 2024 PHB. Mostly cosmetic in mechanical terms — each gives a small bundle of traits that add flavor and an edge or two. Stat bonuses live on background now, not species. (Portrait illustrations are queued — coming in a later drop.)

Pick your background
In 2024 D&D, background is the heavy lifter — it gives you stat bonuses, an Origin Feat, two skills, a tool proficiency, and your starting gear. Sixteen to choose from. Backgrounds with a star are recommended for your class.

Allocate your stats
The standard array is 15 / 14 / 13 / 12 / 10 / 8. Pick which number goes to which ability score. Then pick how your background distributes its +2/+1 bonus across the abilities it allows.
Pick a class first — go back to Step 1.
Class-specific picks
The fiddly bits — different for every class. Casters pick cantrips and prepared spells. Sorcerers also pick Metamagic. Warlocks pick Invocations. Fighter/Paladin/Ranger pick a Fighting Style.
Pick a class first — go back to Step 1.
Level-4 bump — ability score, or feat?
Every class gets one of these at level 4: either an Ability Score Increase, or a feat from the General list. Feats with a star are particularly suited to your class. Feats with prerequisites you don't meet are hidden.

Pick your archetype slot
The narrative thread your character carries into the conspiracy. Your class auto-suggests one archetype (★) — but any of the ten can be reskinned for any class. Each pre-rolled character comes with name, hometown, hero prop, and a thread into the larger story. Tap the title in any card to read the full detail page in a new tab.

Your character sheet
A one-page printable sheet with everything you picked. Print sends it to your printer (or to PDF). Email Andreas ships your picks to him so he can tea-stain the paper version for the Summons letter packet.
Your character will appear here once you've walked the previous steps.
A week before we play, a letter will arrive at your house. Open it alone. Do not compare notes with the others until you reach the Trade Way.
